I am so sad to see forums here on Tapatalk struggling with a company that seems intent on removing many features that are useful to its board admins and members
TL;DR a lament for the once thriving community on Ezboard/Yuku which has slowly been eroded by Tapatalk and is now only a husk of its former vibrant self
How many people posting here have any idea that there is/was a 'Promote' board on Yuku where board admins could post invitations to visit their board? It's still there but the last post was in May 2016 which is eight years ago so you could accurately describe the board as moribund and unsupported. Yuku - Promote your community But it was actually a good idea, it's just been left to rot. Its tagline was "Promote your community, profiles, art, business. Tips on how to work the Internet to your advantage and bring good people to you". So how are Tapatalk users supposed to find new boards to visit when it seems that every avenue to do so has been shut down? Boards seem to exist in their own vacuum as separate entities.
On Facebook you have the Tapatalk page Facebook where the last post is dated April 2019 with less than 3000 followers, the Yuku page where the last post is dated March 2017 and has less than 250 followers, and Friends of Yuku where the last post is also dated March 2017 with 95 followers. Yet Tapatalk claims 65000 boards?
Additionally, there was a 'radical idea' called a 'Board Hop' where the admins of a group of boards would get together and organise a themed or general wander around their board for members, each making a Board Post and putting in links to all the participating boards. Members could do the board hop in any order they wanted and there was always plenty of time to visit them all, a board a day if desired. This 'radical idea' led members on a voyage of discovery, visiting boards they would not have come across in their daily visits to their favourite forum. @Chrisw do you remember the Dove of Peace board hop you arranged and promoted in December 2017? There was also a Summer Solstice Stroll in June 2007 (yes, that long ago!) and a Yule Board hop even earlier in December 2003 as well as many more. These all fostered community and an exchange of ideas which seems to have been lost in Tapatalk.
I joined Ezboard in 2000 on a group called 'Universal Spider' (which, to my surprise, is actually still in existence although unused since about 2016), I created my own boards in 2001 and 2002. The Great Ezhack of 31st May 2005 absolutely destroyed my main board and caused huge damage to my second board but I I managed to salvage most of the latter and is still existing, albeit missing over a year's worth of posts. So my confidence in Ezboard/Yuku/Tapatalk was already pretty low and it is getting lower all the time ...
Now I find I have no right to the board data which has been accumulated over the last 22 years, I have no access to any back ups, Tapatalk has based its forums on PHPBB software and there should be an option for admin on the control panel to back up the board - this has been removed by Tapatalk so no admin can protect their board(s). All three tiers on the dashboard promise 'scalable + daily back up' so Tapatalk DOES have backups of boards. I could, if I wanted to, pay for a year's worth of Premium for my board using donated Gold Points but the question is why should I bother?
